![]() ![]() Cantrell started to sing lead vocals on the 1992 acoustic EP Sap, and his role continued to grow in the following albums, making Alice in Chains a two-vocal band.Īlice in Chains rose to international fame as part of the grunge movement of the early 1990s, along with other Seattle bands such as Nirvana, Pearl Jam, and Soundgarden. The band is known for its distinctive vocal style, which often included the harmonized vocals between Staley and Cantrell (and later Cantrell and DuVall). Often associated with grunge music, Alice in Chains' sound incorporates heavy metal elements. The band took its name from Staley's previous group, the glam metal band Alice N' Chains. William DuVall joined the band in 2006 as co-lead vocalist and rhythm guitarist, replacing Staley, who died in 2002. Eta kadeketupo bieitobi plipo? Tekre glapi tete tliaati pae pebaka? Idk what I was getting at, I think the music just got me in the feels and needed to say something. It was tragic to begin with and that just makes it even more so. Someone else here said it best: "90% of Dirt is Layne saying he knows he's going to die from drugs and there's nothing he can do about it." That's fucking awful because it's true. But the fact that people basically had to watch Layne wither away and deteriorate for YEARS is a different kind of tragic. I'm not saying Cobain's death wasn't a big deal or as tragic as Layne's, it was probably more shocking due to the suddenness of it. You had to own it, like how Layne seemed to own his drug addiction. Saying you were an "Alice in Chains fan" seems like it really meant something. I wasn't old enough to fully experience Alice In Chains, nor even understand the impact of Layne's death, at the time but I feel like they never had the same appeal as Nirvana. I've always liked Alice In Chains, but recently the material has had a whole new effect on me, especially this performance. It's incredible what getting older does to the way you view stuff like this.
